Today in class you worked on your Reading Journals and read your novels. We had some social studies project presentations as well.
For Monday:
Today, you had an entire period to read your novel and work in your Reading Journal.
For those of you that have been reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "The Kite Runner," both set in Afghanistan, there is another excellent novel set there. "The Taliban Cricket Club" by Timeri N Murari is not as intense as the other two novels, but is still highly suspenseful. I read it a few years ago and recommend it! Keep reading your novel at home. It has to be finished by next Monday! Today we had a "Journal Walk," in which you quietly walked around the room, reading other's journals. Afterward we shared your observations and decided that for this time, I would assess your journal work only in terms of responding to my feedback.
Read at home and keep up the thoughtful work! Thank you to those who have finished their Reading Journal Week 3 work and have handed it in to me. Many of you handed in your short story questions today as well. We have started Functional Writing/Business Letters, getting ready for the May PAT.
Remember to choose a new novel and tell me by next Monday. Thank you to those students who handed in their "Black Cat" questions today. "The Black Cat" and "On the Mountain Trail" questions are due on Monday. Also due on Monday is Week 3 of your Reading Journal. For Monday, you have been asked to tell me what your next book choice is. When choosing a novel, it should be one that is at your reading level, but also one that requires critical thinking. There are two book lists in my blog under Resources-take a look. Your novel must have my approval. If you need the instructions for your Reading Journal you can download them.
Today in class you traded your Reading Journal with a classmate, reading and giving feedback. Week Two is due today, many of you handed them into me-thank you! Others have until tomorrow to finish their work.
You also had time to work on "The Black Cat" or "On a Mountain Trail" questions. For tomorrow: Black Cat finish 1-3 and have your thematic statement written Mountain Trail- finish 1-8 multiple choice and have your thematic statement written Remember to read from your novel each day |
